What’s new on Wannabe Hacks

by A Wannabe Hack

So, we’re guessing that you have noticed the odd change or two around here? We wanted to put together a fancy stop-motion video that would explain all of this to you, but we can’t draw or make stop motion videos. So we didn’t.

We’ve known for a while that the site needed some tweaking.

In its previous form it wasn’t easy to see what the newest content was and many of the changes are self explanatory. You should be able to find content much more easily now, read it more easily and share it more easily.

There are also a few bigger changes we want to flag up:

User accounts and profiles

You can now sign up to the site. Over time we’re going to be adding new features to profiles

  • The ability to favourite articles
  • Single sign on for your profile and your comments
  • Your own tips section and some more social features

but for now it means we can credit guest posters properly, that you can have a profile with your details on Wannabe Hacks and you can access our new “How To” feature.

How To

We’re putting together a range of How To guides. These are available as posts on the site and PDFs to download and have on your Kindle or iPad. You need a profile to view these and download them, but they are free and always will be.

Community How To

Soon you will be able to submit your own How To guides for use by the community. They will be attached to your profile and people will be able to recommend, rate and share them so you can help other Wannabes out.

Podcast

We’re bringing back the Hack Report, but it has been taken into the workshop, stripped down and put back together with all new parts. It’s going to be 10 minutes of compelling discussion, great interviews and industry insight every fortnight.

Newsletter

The newsletter is staying fortnightly but is getting a visual refresh and we’re changing up some of the content ensuring we have a better focus on keeping you in the know (you can sign up here if you’re not already).

We’re going to be making more use of video, organising more events and hopefully directing you to additional useful content that isn’t being put together by us, but you should know about.

One last thing…

Advertising and user data

We like to be upfront with our users – we’re not and we won’t ever sell your data. We pick advertisers for the site based on their relevance to our audience. We may have sponsors in our newsletter or on sections of the site but any content related to sponsors will be clearly marked and they will never be given access to the data you provide us.
